What is the history and popularity of the app?

Melted Joystick was founded in March of 2011. The website’s main focus is to provide a video game social network for internet users. The website is still relatively new, however it appears quite active and already offers a good bit of content to its users. The Melted Joystick team currently includes founders Alex Olson and Nick Barry as well as writer Chris Kavan. Olson is the current CEO and Barry holds the position of CTO.

What are the differences to other apps?

Melted Joystick offers many of the usual features that are generally expect of any social network. Users can get to know one another, interact through forums and reviews, and learn from their fellow Melted Joystick community members. What really makes the website stand out is its focus on games. This broad category covers a lot of ground, but still manages to narrow down the purpose of Melted Joystick. The site also includes a number of helpful resources, such as a blog, game reviews and game lists.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The Melted Joystick website uses a very bold black and red color scheme, which is primarily featured in the site header. The logo is very fitting, with the image of a joystick and a black base that seems to be melting. Even the site’s name seems rather clever. Navigation links can be found in the narrow black bar at the top of the page, helping users discover reviews, the blog, the forum, game news, new games, the search tool and other members. The site contains advertisements, but these are generally off to the side and can be ignored relatively easily.

How does the registration process work?

A new user can become a member of the Melted Joystick community by clicking on the white “Sign Up” link at the far right side of the navigation link bar. The short registration form asks the user for an email address (which will be their login name), password, profile name and their favorite gaming platform. The user must also check a small box that confirms their agreement with the Melted Joystick terms of use and successfully enter a Captcha code at the bottom of the form. After submitting the form, the user is advised that they must check their email for a verification message which must be accessed to complete registration.

What does it cost to use the application?

The Melted Joystick is a social network, and thrives by having more users participating within the network. The site does not currently charge a fee for access. Users can create an account and begin exploring the community at no cost. This is definitely a good way to encourage more users to sign up and return. The site is still young, so it is possible that further down the road a premium paid membership might be added. At this time, there is no indication that the free account access is going to change any time soon.

Who would you recommend the application to?

The Melted Joystick is intended for one main audience: gamers. It is primarily focused on gamers who prefer console games rather than PC games. The site offers many resources and a number of ways to interact.
